Jackson scores 17, Duquesne rallies to beat struggling Dayton 63-61
DAYTON, Ohio (AP)—Aaron Jackson scored 17 points Wednesday night, and Duquesne overcame an early 12-point deficit to beat struggling Dayton 63-61.
Duquesne (16-7, 6-4 Atlantic 10) went to a full-court press and forced 17 turnovers. There were two ties and five lead changes in a game that came down to the final shot.
Dayton’s Andres Sandoval missed a 3-point attempt from the right wing at the buzzer, leaving the Flyers (16-7, 4-6) with six losses in their last eight games. The Flyers have gone into a free fall since losing two top forwards to injury.
Brian Roberts had a game-high 22 points, and Marcus Johnson added 11 points and 12 rebounds for Dayton.
The Flyers made eight of their first 11 shots and pulled ahead 18-6 before Duquesne went to its press and finally caught up with 13 minutes left in the game.
Shawn Jones made a 3-pointer that put Duquesne ahead 63-58 with 1:34 to go. Charles Little made one of his two free throws, and Johnson had a lay-in with 21 seconds left that cut the lead two three.
Duquesne threw the ball away with 17 seconds left, setting up Dayton’s final shot.
