SFA defense shuts down Texas-San Antonio, 60-39

NACOGDOCHES, Texas (AP)—Matt Kingsley scored 17 points and Stephen F. Austin’s stifling defense shut down Texas-San Antonio for a 60-39 win Saturday night.

SFA, the nation’s No. 2 scoring defense at 54.5 points a game heading into Saturday, held an opponent under 60 for the 14th time this year. It was the fourth time the Lumberjacks (19-3, 7-2 Southland) kept a team under 40 points.

SFA came into the game allowing 39 percent shooting from the field, and UTSA (8-13, 2-6) likewise had trouble getting good shots. The Roadrunners made just 15-of-45 field goals (33 percent).

Devin Gibson scored 14 to lead the Roadrunners. The only other scorer in double figures was JohnMark Ludwick with 12. Only four other UTSA players scored.

Kingsley went 7-of-10 from the field for SFA, and he also blocked three shots. Josh Alexander added 14 points and eight rebounds. The Lumberjacks outrebounded UTSA 40-18.

The Lumberjacks led at halftime 33-20, then opened the second half with a 13-4 run and the game was never close after that.
