UC Irvine 65, UC Santa Barbara 59
SANTA BARBARA (AP)—Patrick Sanders scored eight of his game-high 18 points in the final 11:20 as UC Irvine rallied from a 10-point deficit to beat UC Santa Barbara 65-59 Saturday night in a Big West Conference basketball game.
The Anteaters (10-13, 5-5) held the Gauchos to just two baskets in the final nine minutes, outscoring them 28-12.
UCSB (17-6, 6-4 Big West) shot 63 percent in the first 25 minutes, taking a 47-37 lead on Justin Joyner’s 3-pointer. Joyner led UCSB with 16 points and seven assists. But UCSB made just four of its last 25 shots.
Irvine took the lead for good at 54-52 on a fast-break layup by Marcus McIntosh with 7:15 to go. McIntosh scored 16 points while Darren Fells added nine with 12 rebounds for the Anteaters, who outshot the Gauchos 47.7 percent to 40.4.
Chris Devine added 15 points for the Gauchos.
