McDaniel leads Sam Houston St. past TAMCC, 71-53
HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP)—Shamir McDaniel scored 19 points, including 5-of-8 3-pointers, to help lead Sam Houston State to a 71-53 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday night.
The game was tied eight times with 13 lead changes before the Bearkats went ahead to stay 36-35 on a free throw by John Gardiner with 16:37 to play. From that point, Sam Houston State outscored the Islanders 35-18, shooting almost 57 percent in the second half.
McDaniel hit consecutive 3-pointers within 17 seconds to give the Bearkats a 59-45 lead with 4:22 to play.
He led four players in double figures for the Bearkats (18-4, 6-3 Southland). Ryan Bright scored 15 points and pulled down 10 boards. DeLuis Ramirez added 12 points, and John Gardiner had 10.
Justin Reynolds led the Islanders (6-15, 3-5) with 17 points. Kevin Perkins added 11.
