Northeastern 51, William & Mary 42
BOSTON (AP)—Nkem Ojougboh scored 15 points and Matt Janning added 10 as Northeastern defeated William & Mary, 51-42, on Saturday to win its fourth straight game.
The game featured season-low point totals for both teams, as Northeastern shot 42 percent and William & Mary hit just 30 percent of its attempts.
After William & Mary (13-10, 9-4 Colonial Athletic Association) made the game’s first basket in the first minute, it went scoreless for the next 9:55. During that time, Northeastern (11-12, 7-6 CAA) went on a 12-0 run to take a lead it wouldn’t relinquish.
William & Mary missed 12 of its first 13 shots from the floor and shot only 24 percent in the first half.
After falling behind 17-5, William & Mary went on a 10-3 run to cut Northeastern’s lead to 5. Northeastern then scored five points in the final 14 seconds of the first half, as Ojougboh hit a 3-pointer and Janning had a steal and jumper with three seconds remaining to give NU a 25-15 edge at the break.
In the second half, William & Mary got within 6 points several times, but could get no closer. Northeastern opened up its biggest lead of the game at 15 on an Ojougboh basket with 11:48 left.
Nathan Mann led the Tribe with 12 points, while Danny Sumner added 9.
