Kina scores 27 to lead Navy past Bucknell, 78-72
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP)—Kaleo Kina scored a career-high 27 points to lead Navy to a 78-72 victory over Bucknell in a Patriot League game Saturday night.
Greg Sprink added 22 and Chris Harris 19 for Navy, which snapped a seven-game losing streak to Bucknell. Four other Midshipmen divided the remaining 10 points for Navy.
Kina made 11 of 18 field goals for Navy (11-12, 4-4 Patriot League). Sprink scored 16 of his points in the second half and came up big down the stretch, drilling a pull-up 3-pointer with 1:53 remaining and calmly swishing two free throws at the 1:14 mark.
Harris nailed a long 3-pointer with 35.5 second left to give Navy a 76-68 lead. Harris shot 4-for-9 from beyond the arc and now stands second on the school’s single-season list with 66 3-pointers.
Senior guard John Griffin shot 5-for-7 from 3-point range in scoring 19 points for Bucknell (10-13, 5-4), which has lost three of its last four Patriot League games. Darren Mastropaolo, Justin Castleberry and Stephen Tyree all netted 12 points for the Bison, who committed 22 turnovers and were hurt by a five-minute scoreless stretch midway through the second half.
Kina, a junior guard, had 19 first-half points for Navy, which rallied from an early 8-0 deficit. The Midshipmen closed the half by outscoring the Bison 13-2 with Harris nailing a deep 3-pointer as time expired to give the hosts a 39-32 lead at intermission.
