Carter scores 23 to lead Murray State over Morehead State
MOREHEAD, Ky. (AP)—Bruce Carter scored 23 points as Murray State beat Morehead State 64-52 Saturday afternoon.
It was the first home loss in 11 games for Morehead State this season.
The Racers (15-9, 11-5 Ohio Valley Conference) led 13-12 with 11:10 left in the first half and scored 12 straight for a 25-12 advantage on their way to a 31-21 halftime spread.
Morehead State got to within 43-38 with 9:29 remaining in the game. Murray State regrouped and Danero Thomas’ bucket ended a 10-0 run that push the Racers ahead 53-38.
Morehead State could get no closer than 10 for the remainder of the contest.
Besides Carter’s 23, Thomas finished with 14 and Tyler Holloway chipped in with 10.
Maze Stallworth and Jamyron Steward topped Morehead State with 14 each.
Murray State hit 19 of 39 (48.7 percent) from the field while Morehead State struggled hitting only 18 of 56 (32.1 percent), including 6 of 26 3-point attempts.
