Akron uses outside shooting to down Ball State 70-61
MUNCIE, Ind. (AP)—Nate Linhart scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Akron to a 70-61 win over Ball State Saturday night.
Linhart sank 4-of-6 3-pointers, and Akron (17-6, 7-3) made 11-of-24 as a team to overcome Ball State’s edge inside. The Cardinals (3-19, 2-8) outscored the Zips 30-18 in the paint.
Quade Milum added 13 points and three blocks for Akron, and Nick Dials scored 12 points.
The Zips, who led 33-32 at halftime, outrebounded the Cardinals 34-30, and Akron’s bench outscored Ball State’s, 24-11.
Rashaun McLemore led Ball State with 16 points, and Anthony Newell had 13 points and five assists.
Melvin Goins, who scored a career-high 21 points Wednesday in a loss at Kent State, finished with eight. Ball State made only 1-of-9 3-pointers and 24-of-54 field goals, or 44 percent, for the game.
The win was Akron’s fourth-straight against Ball State.
