Appalachian State tops The Citadel in OT
BOONE, N.C. (AP)—Donte Minter scored 12 of his season-best 25 points during the final 4 minutes of regulation and in overtime to lead Appalachian State past The Citadel 75-71 on Saturday and keep the Bulldogs winless in Southern Conference play.
Jeremy Clayton finished with 14 points and 16 rebounds, Donald Sims scored 13 points and Ryann Abraham added 11 for the Mountaineers (15-8, 10-4).
Appalachian State outscored the Bulldogs 14-10 in the extra session to win for the third time in four games.
The Mountaineers trailed 60-55 with just under 4 minutes to play before reeling off six straight points, and held a 61-60 lead with 3.6 seconds remaining when Abraham fouled Cameron Wells, who hit 1-of-2 free throws to tie it at 61-all. Abraham’s 3-pointer at the buzzer rimmed out, sending the game to OT.
Wells finished with 17 points for The Citadel (5-17, 0-13), which has lost 11 straight. Austin Dahn and Zach Urbanus both scored 16 points and Tyrell McDowell added 10.
Minter finished two points shy of his season high, set against Vanderbilt last season in the championship game of the San Juan Shootout.
