Hardy’s 18 points leads Sacred Heart to 74-63 win
FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP)—Chauncey Hardy scored 18 points to lead Sacred Heart to a 74-63 win over Monmouth Thursday night.
It was the eighth straight win for the Pioneers (14-10, 11-2 Northeast Conference) and the 700th in program history.
Yaniv Simpson had his team-leading 20 points all in the second half for the Hawks (5-18, 2-9).
Ryon Howard added 12 points for Sacred Heart.
The Pioneers opened quickly with a 18-3 over the first nine minutes of the game. Hardy hit three 3-pointers in the first half and the Pioneers led 40-24 at the break.
Sacred Heart led by as many as 20 in the second half. Monmouth rallied to cut the deficit to five with 5:49 remaining, but the Pioneers answered with an 11-0 run to seal the win.
Sacred Heart had 27 points off 20 Monmouth turnovers.
