Babington leads Austin Peay to 72-52 win over Eastern Illinois.
CHARLESTON, Ill. (AP)—Todd Babington scored a career-high 27 points, including seven 3-pointers, to lead Austin Peay to a 72-52 win over Eastern Illinois on Thursday night.
Drake Reed added 10 points for Austin Peay (16-9, 12-3 Ohio Valley), which led 29-28 at halftime.
The Governors pulled away on a 18-5 run after the break that was capped by a 3-pointer by Wes Channels with 4:28 left. Austin Peay also went 8-for-8 from the free-throw line in the game’s final eight minutes.
Eastern Illinois (4-19, 3-12) played without injured leading scorer Romain Martin.
The Governors jumped out to a 15-2 lead to start the game as Babington hit four 3-pointers in the first six minutes. He finished 7-of-11 from 3-point range.
The Panthers rallied behind Jon’Tee Willhite, who scored all 12 of his points in the first half.
Tyler Laser added 11 points for Eastern Illinois, which lost 73-57 earlier in the season to Austin Peay.
