Campbell’s 25 points lead George Mason to 75-65 win over Drexel
PHILADELPHIA (AP)—Folarin Campbell scored a game-high 25 points to lead George Mason to a 75-65 win over Drexel on Thursday night.
Campbell broke a 58-58 tie with 5:35 remaining by hitting a 3-pointer that sparked a 17-7 George Mason run to end the game and give the Patriots (17-6, 9-3 Colonial Athletic Association) their seventh win in eight games.
Will Thomas added 17 points and a game-high 12 rebounds and John Vaughan scored 13 points for George Mason.
Scott Rodgers scored 18 points and Tramayne Hawthorne had 17 for Drexel (9-15, 2-10), which lost its sixth straight. Randy Oveneke added 12 points for the Dragons and Frank Elegar pulled down 11 rebounds.
Drexel trailed 37-31 at the half but went on a 10-4 run capped by Rob Hampton’s layup with 6:03 remaining that tied the score at 58.
Drexel led 24-11 with 7:55 left in the first half after a 3-pointer by Hawthorne. But George Mason went on a 20-5 run capped by a Thomas free throw that capped a 3-point play to give the Patriots a 37-28 lead. Campbell and Thomas combined for 25 points in the half.
