Western Michigan cruises to 86-66 win over Akron
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP)Joe Reitz scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Western Michigan, which jumped to a 22-point first half lead on the way to an 86-66 win over Akron on Wednesday night.
The Broncos used a 30-8 run to take a 39-17 advantage with 5:28 remaining before halftime and never led by less than nine thereafter.
The victory keeps Western Michigan (13-9, 7-2 Mid-American) tied with Kent State atop the conference overall and maintains its two-game lead over Central Michigan in the West Division.
Chris McKight led the Zips (16-6, 6-3) with 18 points, and Nate Linhart added 16.
Western Michigan’s Derek Drews shot 4-for-5 from 3-point range and scored 14 points. David Kool added 13 points and eight assists.
