Maynor, Sanders lead VCU in overtime win
ATLANTA (AP)—Eric Maynor scored 16 points and Larry Sanders had a double-double to lead Virginia Commenwealth to a 65-60 overtime win over Georgia State on Wednesday night.
VCU (17-5, 10-2 Colonial Athletic Association) went on a 6-0 run, capped by Maynor’s layup tie the game at 58 with 17 seconds left in the second half, sending the contest into an extra period.
In overtime, the Panthers (6-16, 3-9) took a 60-58 lead with 4:22 left in the game. But the Rams held Georgia State scoreless the rest of the way, as Maynor scored on a consecutive layups to put VCU up for good.
Sanders had 10 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked five shots for the Rams.
Trae Goldston led Georgia State with 16 points, while Leonard Mendez had 13 and Justin Billingslea added 10. Mendez also had nine rebounds.
