East Carolina beats Rice, snaps four-game slide

GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP)—James Legan scored 17 points and East Carolina snapped a four-game losing streak by beating Rice 64-45 on Wednesday night.

Sam Hinnant added 15 points and Gabe Blair had 11 rebounds for the Pirates (8-12, 2-5 Conference USA), who held the Owls to 28.8 percent shooting and extended their struggles.

Rodney Foster had 12 points to lead Rice (3-18, 0-8), which has lost 11 straight and 13 of 14.

The Pirates led by as many as 19 in their first win since a 75-62 victory against Marshall on Jan. 16. East Carolina led Rice 33-21 at halftime.
