Mullins, Falker lead Southern Illinois to 80-69 win over Indiana State
CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP)—Bryan Mullins scored 22 points and Randal Falker had 20 points and 15 rebounds to lead Southern Illinois to a 80-69 win over Indiana State on Tuesday night.
The teams traded blows in the first half and Southern Illinois (12-11, 7-5 Missouri Valley) trailed 35-33 at the break. But the Saluki defense held Indiana State (10-12, 5-7) scoreless for the first four minutes of the second half and Southern Illinois pulled away with a 19-6 run.
Falker and the Salukis excelled in the paint, with 17 points coming off second-chance shots. Southern Illinois also outrebounded the Sycamores 36-25, with nine coming on the offensive glass.
Tyrone Green added 11 points for Southern Illinois.
Marico Stinson led Indiana State with 18 points off five 3-pointers. Gabriel Moore chipped in 15 points and six assists, Jay Tunnell had 13 points and Harry Marshall added 11 points for the Sycamores.
Southern Illinois’ victory extended its home mark against conference opponents to 59-1 since the 2001-02 season. The Salukis last home loss to a Missouri Valley team was Feb. 1, 2006, to Indiana State.
