Burton scores 18 as SCarolina St beats Florida A&M 65-59

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP)—Jessie Burton scored 18 points and Julius Carter added 14 rebounds to lead South Carolina State to a 65-59 win over Florida A&M on Monday night.

The Bulldogs (8-14, 4-4 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) never led until Burton hit a 3-pointer with 13 minutes left in the game. The junior followed with another 3 to put South Carolina State ahead 46-41 with 11:20 to go.

The Bulldogs stretched their lead to 11 points, but Leslie Robinson’s 3-pointer for the Rattlers (8-13, 4-4) with 37 seconds left cut South Carolina State’s lead to 62-56.

The Bulldogs hit their free throws down the stretch to seal the win. South Carolina State was 11-of-17 at the foul line in the second half, while Florida A&M made just 3 of 12 free throws in the final 20 minutes.

Leslie “L.C.” Robinson led the Rattlers with 22 points, while Lamar Twitty added 11 points.

Jason Flagler and Everett Spencer each added 10 points for the Bulldogs.
