Perkins scores 22 to lead A&M-Corpus Christi past UTSA, 73-61
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP)—Kevin Perkins scored 22 points to lead Texas A&M-Corpus Christi past cold-shooting Texas-San Antonio 73-61 on Saturday.
Perkins was 8-of-12 from the field to help A&M-Corpus Christi (6-13, 3-3 Southland) roll to an easy victory despite turnover problems. Perkins lost eight of the Islanders’ 22 turnovers, but UTSA (8-11, 2-4) couldn’t capitalize thanks to woeful shooting.
UTSA shot 30 percent, including 27 percent (9-of-34) after halftime, in its sixth straight loss to A&M-Corpus Christi.
Devin Gibson led UTSA with 20 points, but even he hit just three of 10 from the field. He was 14-of-16 from the line and had six steals. JohnMark Ludwick added 17 points and six rebounds for the Roadrunners.
Demond Watt added 10 points and seven rebounds for A&M-Corpus Christi. Chris Daniels added nine points and 11 rebounds for the Islanders, who outrebounded UTSA 47-25.
