Chauncey Hardy scores 16 points and Sacred Heart wins 7th straight, 63-59 over St. Francis, NY

NEW YORK (AP)—Chauncey Hardy scored 16 points to help Sacred Heart extend its winning streak to seven games with a 63-59 victory over St. Francis on Saturday.

Jamaal Womack had 15 points for the Terriers (5-18, 2-10 Northeast Conference), who lost their sixth in a row. Bass Yessoufou added 13 points and Ricky Cadell 10 for St. Francis, which trailed 42-32 at halftime.

The Pioneers (13-6, 10-2) opened the second half with five unanswered points in 30 seconds to take a 47-32 lead.

St. Francis responded with a 17-4 run to close to 51-49 at 8:20. Womack finished off the surge with a 3-pointer.

Sacred Heart went on a 6-0 run to build the lead to 57-49 on Ryan Litke’s jumper at 5:58.

St. Francis closed the gap to 60-59 on a three-point play by Womack at 1:20. But Brice Brooks’ jump shot with 21 seconds left made it 62-59 and Dick Shubik hit one of two free throws to close out the game.
