Ehambe scored 20 as Oral Roberts beats Centenary 73-62
TULSA, Okla. (AP)—Moses Ehambe more than doubled his scoring average, finishing with a season-high 20 points as Oral Roberts beat Centenary 73-62 on Saturday night to remain undefeated in Summit League play.
Ehambe, a 6-foot-6 senior guard, entered the game averaging 8.6 points and had not scored more than 15 since the season opener. Oral Roberts (15-5, 10-0) won its eighth straight game despite shooting only 32 percent from the field (16 of 50).
The Golden Eagles made up for that by making 38 of 50 free throws, a school record against major-college competition for both made and attempted free throws. Centenary was whistled for 32 fouls, compared to 18 for Oral Roberts.
Centenary (9-13, 3-7) shot 38 percent (23 of 61) from the field and went 11 of 12 (92 percent) from the free-throw line.
Oral Roberts senior Yemi Ogunoye, playing in his 115th career game, posted his first career double-double with 11 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. Robert Jarvis added 12 points and Shawn King 11 for the Golden Eagles.
Tyrone Hamilton paced the Gents with 18 points—including 15 in the second half—and Lance Hill scored 15. Oral Roberts outrebounded Centenary 45-31.
The Golden Eagles led 37-26 at halftime and built their largest lead at 44-29 with 15 minutes left. Centenary rallied within 57-51 with eight minutes remaining before Oral Roberts reeled off six straight points, four by King.
Centenary came no closer than nine points the rest of the way.
The Gents’ only lead came at 18-17. After Centenary’s Nick Stallings sank two free throws to tie the game at 24-24 following a technical on the Oral Roberts bench, Ogunoye made two free throws to put Oral Roberts ahead for good.
That sparked a 13-2 by the Golden Eagles to close the half. Ehambe scored on two breakaway dunks off steals in the final 22 seconds of the half.
