Bennett’s 23 points lead South Alabama over La-Monroe, 77-59

MONROE, La. (AP)—Demetric Bennett had 23 points and South Alabama held Louisiana-Monroe scoreless for more than eight minutes to beat the Warhawks 77-59 on Saturday.

Brandon Davis had 15 points and 13 rebounds and Domonic Tilford 15 points for the Jaguars (18-4, 10-1 Sun Belt).

There had been nine ties and four lead changes when the Warhawks (8-14, 2-8) went ahead 34-33 on a 3-point shot by Jordan Payne with 3:07 left in the first half.

But Tilford put South Alabama ahead for good with 1:35 left in the first half. The Jaguars ended the half on a 7-0 run and with a 40-34 lead, and got the first nine points after the break to go ahead 49-34.

South Alabama’s lead biggest lead was 22 points, 73-51 with 2:05 left.

Jonas Brown led ULM with 18 points and six rebounds. Payne finished with 16 points.

Daon Merritt had seven assists, seven points and six rebounds for South Alabama.
