Hines leads UNC Greensboro to rare rout of Elon, 89-60
GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP)—Kyle Hines had 21 points and 11 rebounds in the 100th double-figure game of his career, leading North Carolina-Greensboro past Elon 89-60 on Saturday.
Dwayne Johnson added 11 of his season-high 17 points in the first half for UNC Greensboro (13-6, 7-3 Southern Conference), which enjoyed a rare rout of its archrival. Nine of the previous 11 meetings were decided by nine or fewer points, and the Spartans’ 29-point victory was their largest since Elon won by 30 in 1975.
Mikko Koivisto finished with 17 points and made the 100th 3-pointer of his career for UNC Greensboro, which has won four straight and 10 of 12.
Brett James had 17 points, and Brian Waters and Montell Watson both had 10 for Elon (7-14, 5-8), which lost five straight.
Hines had his 41st double-double by halftime, and blocked two shots to move within one of the Southern Conference record of 308 held by Western Carolina’s Rans Brempong.
