Venzia scores 18, Colgate beats Navy 84-77
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP)—Mike Venezia scored a career-high 18 points, and Colgate had five players score in double figures in an 84-77 win over Navy on Saturday.
Kendell Chones had 17 points and nine rebounds for the Red Raiders (11-10, 3-4 Patrot League), who beat the Midshipmen for the sixth straight time. Colgate shot 58 percent from the field and held Navy to just 36.4 percent.
Kyle Roemer added 15 points, six rebounds and five assists; Alex Woodhouse had 10 points, eight rebounds and five blocked shots; and Daniel Waddy had 10 points, eight assists and five rebounds for the Red Raiders.
Kaleo Kina led Navy (10-12, 3-4) with 21 points. Chris Harris scored 15.
Greg Sprink, the leading scorer in the Patriot League, made just 3 of 23 shots—the worst shooting night of his career—and fouled out with 1:10 left. Still, Sprink’s 10 points were enough to move him into fourth place on Navy’s all-time scoring list with 1,598 points.
Navy lost its third straight home game. The Midshipmen led at halftime in all three and are 0-4 in league games they have led at the break.
Kina had 16 points in the first half to help Navy take a 36-35 halftime lead.
Navy scored the first five points of the second half, but Colgate responded with a 12-0 run to go ahead 47-41. The Red Raiders extended their advantage to 57-47 with 11 minutes left.
