Davis has 27 points, 9 rebounds; Southern beats Alcorn 86-67
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP)—Chris Davis led five Southern players in double figures with 27 points and nine rebounds as the Jaguars beat Alcorn State 86-67 on Saturday.
Southern (8-12, 6-3 Southwestern) led by as many as 19 points and 43-31 at halftime.
But Alcorn (3-19, 2-7) fought back, tying it 50-50 on a free throw by Alex Owumi with 14:31 left and going ahead with 13:28 left on a 3-point shot by Jarvis Williams.
Davis made two free throws and Julius Ingram two more to put Southern ahead for good at 54-53 with 13:02 left.
Ingram and Geri Guillory finished with 12 points each; Steffon Wiley added 11 and Barry Honore 10.
Alcorn was led by 25 points from Troy Jackson. Williams and Anthony Ford had 11 each, and Owumi had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
