Lockett scores last-minute goal to clinch Austin Peay win
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP)—Fernandez Lockett scored a shot under the goal in the last second to help Austin Peay beat Tennessee State 79-78 Saturday night.
Wes Channels scored 17 points and grabbed five rebounds, while Kyle Duncan claimed 16 points and eight rebounds for the Govs (15-9, 11-3 Ohio Valley). Derek Wright also added 12 points and Todd Babington had 10.
Channels shot a 3-pointer with less than six seconds left and missed, but Lockett grabbed the ball and scored the game-winning goal for the Govs.
Austin Peay had more points in the first half with 44-40, though the Tigers pulled away to take the lead in the second half, 38-35.
LaDarious Weaver was the lead scorer for the Tigers (10-13, 7-7) with 24 points, and three other Tennessee State players contributed double-digit scores. Jerrell Houston had 15 points, Bruce Price added 14 and Darius Cox scored 10.
