Peterson scores 21 points in Samford’s 65-59 win over Tenn. St.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP)—Travis Peterson had 21 points to lift Samford to a 65-59 win over Tennessee State on Thursday night.

Joe Merritt added 10 points and eight rebounds, and Trey Montgomery had 10 points and seven rebounds for the Bulldogs (10-12, 7-7 Ohio Valley Conference).

The Tigers (10-12, 7-6) were led by Jerrell Houston’s 15 points and seven rebounds. Reiley Ervin chipped in with 14 points, and Bruce Price scored 12 for Tennessee State.

The Tigers shot just 38.6 percent from the floor, but still managed to lead by 6 with 11:14 left in the first half. Samford shot 15-for-20 on free throws to propel its win.
