Ayala, Branch lead N.C. Central to 67-65 win over Coppin St.
BALTIMORE (AP)—Bryan Ayala and Philip Branch each scored 21 points, and North Carolina Central defeated Coppin State 67-65 on Wednesday night.
Ayala landed three of four free throws in the final minute of the game to help N.C. Central win.
Tremain Holloway put N.C. Central ahead, 64-62, with a layup with 35 seconds to play. Ayala made two free throws with 22 seconds left, extending the lead to 66-62. He then made one of two free throws with six seconds remaining, giving N.C. Central a five-point lead.
Coppin’s Tywain McKee sank a three-point basket at the buzzer, bringing the final score to 67-65.
Charles Futrell grabbed a game-high eight rebounds for N.C. Central (2-23).
McKee lead Coppin State (4-18) with a team-high 19 points.
