Smith leads Morgan St. to 64-57 victory over Hampton
HAMPTON, Va. (AP)—Jamar Smith had 23 points and Reggie Holmes added 14 to lead Morgan State to a 64-57 win over Hampton on Monday.
A jumper by Marquise Kately with 3:17 left on the clock put Morgan State (11-8, 6-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) ahead for good in a tight game that was tied eight times and in which the lead also changed eight times. The Pirates (11-7, 5-1) trailed most of the first half, with the Bears leading 27-26 at the half.
Smith went 8-of-18 from the field and Boubacar Coly scored 12 points and had 12 rebounds for the Bears.
Micheal Freeman was the only Pirate to score in the double figures, with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Morgan State outshot Hampton 36 percent to 33 percent and outrebounded the Pirates 45-38.
