White’s OT scoring helps Howard in 73-69 win over Coppin St.
WASHINGTON (AP)—Curtis White scored 7 of his 10 points in overtime to help Howard beat Coppin State 73-69 on Monday night.
Eugene Myatt scored 17 points, and Adam Walker and Randy Hampton each scored 10 for the Bison (5-15, 2-4 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), who broke a three-game losing streak.
Antwan Harrison had 22 points for Coppin State (4-17, 0-7), which has lost four straight and 15 of its last 16.
White scored 7 of the Bison’s final 9 points. He hit a 3-pointer with 2:11 left in overtime to give Howard a 67-62 lead, and made all four of his free throw attempts in the final 34 seconds to ice the win.
Coppin State’s Tywain McKee, who had 18 points, forced overtime when he stripped the ball as Myatt was going up for a shot, then made a fast-break layup with 18 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 60. Myatt missed a potential game-winning attempt at the buzzer.
Howard had built an 11-point lead just after halftime, but the Eagles went on a 10-1 run to make the score 36-35 with 15 minutes left, and the game stayed close the rest of the way. ^
