Lee scores career-high 33 as Western Kentucky beats Arkansas St.
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP)—Courtney Lee scored a career-high 33 points and Western Kentucky hung on for a 77-68 victory over Arkansas State Sunday.
The Hilltoppers (16-5, 8-1 Sun Belt) led by 15 points at halftime and by as many as 18 points with 15:28 to play, but the Indians rallied and closed to within three points on Ryan Wedel?s 3-point basket with 5:18 remaining.
Lee then hit consecutive 3-pointers and a pair of free throws to extend Western Kentucky’s lead back to 70-59 to seal the victory.
Lee was 9 of 15 from the floor, including 5 of 8 from 3-point range and 10 of 13 at the free-throw line in eclipsing his previous career high of 31 points.
Tyrone Brazelton added 20 points for the Hilltoppers, including a 3-point shot at the halftime buzzer that gave Western Kentucky a 42-27 lead at the break.
Wedel paced Arkansas State with 23 points, while Kewain Gant added 16. The Indians played without leading scorer Adrian Banks, who was sidelined with an ankle injury.
