Rider scores hard-fought win over St. Peter’s
NEWARK, N.J. (AP)—Jason Thompson scored 18 points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds as Rider held off St. Peter’s 76-67 on Sunday.
Harris Mansell added 13 points for Rider (14-5, 8-2 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference), while Justin Robinson had 12 and Ryan Thompson finished with 10. Wesley Jenkins came off the bench to score a game-high 20 points for the Peacocks (5-16, 1-9), while Darrell Lampley added 10 points and three assists.
Rider led 34-30 at the break, but the Peacocks rallied in the second half and took the lead when Jenkins hit a layup with 11:23 left to play. The teams then traded baskets for several minutes before the Broncs regained the lead for good on a jumper by Kamron Werner with 6:36 remaining.
St. Peter’s tried to rally again late in the game, but Jason Thompson eventually sealed the win by hitting two free throws with 1:12 left.
