Norfolk State’s offense clicks in victory
NORFOLK, Va. (AP)—Michael Deloach scored 18 points and Tony Murphy added 17 Saturday night as Norfolk State put on one of its best offensive displays in years in a 97-71 victory against South Carolina State.
The Spartans (8-9, 5-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) won for the sixth time in seven games and reached their highest point total in regulation since the 2000 season.
South Carolina State (6-13, 2-3) got 15 points from Carrio Bennett and 14 from Jessie Burton, but allowed 23 points on 18 turnovers, was outrebounded 44-30 and came up on the short end of a 26-4 difference in points off offensive rebounds.
The Spartans led 46-27 at halftime and coasted to their largest victory margin since a 28-point triumph against Morgan State in January 2006.
Rashid Cann and Carey Lyons each added 14 points for the Spartans.
