Maynor, Shuler lead VCU past Drexel
RICHMOND, Va. (AP)—Eric Maynor and Jamaal Shuler did all the scoring as Virginia Commonwealth opened the second half with a 21-10 run to break open a tight game Saturday night and the Rams went on to a 76-62 victory against Drexel.
VCU (15-4, 8-1 Colonial Athletic Association) led 27-26 at halftime before Maynor scored 15 of his 20 points in the run and Shuler had the other six. The burst gave the Rams a 48-36 advantage and the Dragons never got closer than eight again.
Drexel (9-12, 2-7) got 15 points from Rob Hampton and 11 from Frank Elegar,
Maynor scored the last 11 points in the run for the Rams and had five assists. Shuler finished with 17 points and eight rebounds and Michael Anderson and Joey Rodriguez scored 10 each as VCU won its seventh in a row.
The Rams committed just five turnovers and shot 59 percent in the second half.
