Second-half spurt leads Texas State past Texas-San Antonio, 79-73
SAN ANTONIO (AP)—Ryan White scored 17 points off the bench and Texas State erased a seven-point deficit in less than two minutes in a 79-73 victory against Texas-San Antonio on Saturday night.
The Bobcats (10-8, 3-3 Southland) trailed 40-33 early in the second half when they scored eight points in a 57-second span, taking a 41-40 lead on a layup by Chris Agwumaro with 14:11 remaining. A 3-pointer by White 40 seconds earlier had pulled Texas State within one.
The Roadrunners (8-10, 2-3) ended up going scoreless for nearly five minutes, and the Bobcats pushed their lead to 10 with a 21-4 run capped by Brent Holder’s 3-pointer for a 54-44 lead with 10:11 remaining.
Melvin Smith led the Roadrunners with 20 points off the bench. Devin Gibson had 15 points and team highs of seven rebounds and five assists.
White was one of four double-figure scorers for the Bobcats. Brent Benson scored 14, Agwumaro scored 13 and Ty Gough had 10 points and nine rebounds.
