Dieng leads St. Francis, Pa. to 73-72 win over Cent. Connecticut
LORETTO, Pa. (AP)—Bassirou Dieng’s 14-foot jumper with 3.9 seconds to go lifted St. Francis, Pa., to a 73-72 win over Central Connecticut State on Saturday.
St. Francis (5-15, 3-6 Northeast Conference) led 71-69 before Tristan Blackwood hit a 3-pointer with 12 seconds left to put Central Connecticut (9-12, 5-5) up by one.
After a timeout and foul by the Blue Devils, the Red Flash inbounded on their side of the court with 8.6 seconds left. Steve Profeta passed it in to Dieng, and the 6-foot-9 center buried a fadeaway jumper from just inside the free-throw line.
Central Connecticut State raced upcourt, but Blackwood missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Devin Sweetney led St. Francis with 18 points. Cale Nelson had 17, Marquis Ford 12 and Dieng eight.
Blackwood scored 21 for the Blue Devils, who led by as many as 10 in the first half. Marcus Palmer added 17 points and Ken Horton 14 for Central Connecticut.
