Tomko leads UNC Wilmington past George Mason 61-58
WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP)—Chad Tomko scored 16 points, Vladimir Kuljanin had 12 points and 17 rebounds and North Carolina Wilmington beat George Mason 61-58 on Saturday night.
Todd Hendley, Daniel Fountain and T.J. Carter each scored 10 points for the Seahawks (13-8, 6-3 Colonial Athletic Association), who used a 13-0 second-half run to take the lead for good. Hendley’s layup with 9:20 left made it 49-47 and put UNC Wilmington ahead to stay.
John Vaughan had 19 points, Folarin Campbell added 17 points and Will Thomas finished with 14 rebounds for George Mason. After UNC Wilmington’s big run, the Patriots could get no closer than three points—the last time on Campbell’s layup with 3 seconds left.
George Mason outrebounded UNC Wilmington 33-31, shot 44 percent and allowed the Seahawks to shoot nearly 43 percent. But the Patriots couldn’t get to the free-throw line—UNC Wilmington was 10-of-13 from the line, compared to just 3-of-4 for George Mason—and the Seahawks committed just four turnovers.
