Hares leads Belmont to victory over Mercer
MACON, Ga. (AP)—Justin Hare scored 31 points, hitting seven 3-pointers, to lead Belmont to a 93-82 win over Mercer on Saturday night.
The Bruins (13-8, 5-2 Atlantic Sun) took a 49-24 lead in the first half, using a 29-7 run over an eight-minute span to put them ahead. Mercer (9-11, 4-3) answered with eight straight points, but still ended up trailing by 17 points at halftime.
Belmont had a 67-42 lead with a 15:39 left in the second half. The Bears trimmed the lead to 8 points with just over two minutes left in the game on a layup by Calvin Henry. But Mercer couldn’t pull any closer.
Matthew Dotson scored 15 points, hitting 5-of-9 shots from beyond the arc for the Bruins. Shane Dansby 11 points.
James Florence led Mercer with 21 points, Brian Pfohl had 14 and Mark Hall added 13. Shaddean Aaron and Brian Mills each had 11 points.
