Hot-shooting Holsinger leads Evansville over Missouri St., 84-65
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP)—Jason Holsinger sank seven 3-pointers and scored 28 points to lead Evansville over Missouri State 84-65 Saturday night for the school’s first Missouri Valley Conference win.
Holsinger also made eight-of-16 field goals and all five of his free throws and led the Purple Aces (6-13, 1-8) with eight assists. Shy Ely scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Darin Granger added 11 points.
Justin Fuehrmeyer and Dale Lamberth led Missouri State with 14 points each. Deven Mitchell and Spencer Laurie both had 10.
Evansville took the lead for good after Victor Gomez tied the score at 20 with a layup with 9:24 left in the first half. The Purple Aces then used three Holsinger 3-pointers and several field goals to build a 40-26 halftime lead.
Evansville then stretched its lead to as much as 25 points in the second half.
The Purple Aces made 12-of-22 3-pointers Saturday after hitting none in a 72-42 loss Wednesday at Indiana State.
