Stywall, Hines lead UNC Greensboro past The Citadel
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP)—Ben Stywall scored a season-high 21 points, Kyle Hines added 20 points and 14 rebounds and North Carolina Greensboro beat The Citadel 74-63 on Saturday for its eight straight win in the series.
Hines became UNC Greensboro’s career rebounding leader with 936, surpassing Bruce Shaw, who had 933 from 1968-73. Hines had his second 20-point game this season against The Citadel, and blocked three shots to move within three of the Southern Conference record of 308 set by Western Carolina’s Rams Brempong. He scored in double figures for the 68th straight game and had his 40th career double-double.
Davor Galic added 13 points for the Spartans (12-6, 6-3 Southern Conference), who forced 20 turnovers and turned them into 23 points in keeping the Bulldogs winless in league play and gave coach Mike Dement his 300th career win. Dement is 300-282 in his 21st season as a head coach.
Austin Dahn had 17 points, Cameron Wells scored 13 and Jon Brick added 11 for The Citadel (5-14, 0-10), which shot 46 percent, made nine 3-pointers and was outrebounded just 39-32.
Stywall, who had two 16-point games earlier this season, fell two points shy of his personal-best 23-point performance last season against Delaware.
Kevin Oleksiak, who had a career-high nine assists against the College of Charleston, now has a total 17 assists in two games for UNC Greensboro.
