Smithson keeps UNC Asheville in first place, beats Chas. Southern
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP)—Bryan Smithson scored 21 points and North Carolina Asheville remained perfect in Big South play by beating Charleston Southern 86-73 on Saturday night.
Kenny George had 17 points, K.J. Garland scored 14 and Vincent James had 12 points and 11 rebounds for the first-place Bulldogs (16-4, 5-0), who shot 54 percent in winning their fifth straight.
UNC Asheville has won 10 of its last 12 games, with the only losses coming to two top-five teams: No. 3 Tennessee and No. 5 North Carolina.
Jamarco Warren scored 16 points and Quinton Goods and Shelton Carter each had 10 for Charleston Southern (7-13, 1-4), which has lost three straight and five of six despite making 11-of-31 from 3-point range against UNC Asheville.
