Pigram helps East Tennessee State beat Jacksonville 83-77
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP)—Courtney Pigram scored 22 points to lead East Tennessee State to an 83-77 win over Jacksonville on Friday.
Pigram, last year’s A-Sun player-of-the-year, hit 8-of-20 shots including four baskets from 3-point range to hand Jacksonville its first league loss in six games this year. Pigram’s biggest basket came with 1:40 remaining in the game when he drilled a 3-pointer just before the shot clock expired, giving the Bucs a 75-69 advantage.
Jacksonville cut the deficit to four points at 81-77 with 22 seconds left on a Ben Smith 3-pointer but the visitors added a pair of free throws in the closing seconds for the win.
East Tennessee State had four players who scored in double figures, including Kenyona Swader who had 15 points. The Buccaneers finished 8-of-24 from beyond the arc.
Marcus Allen scored 23 points to lead Jacksonville while Smith added 19.
East Tennessee State scored just before the first half buzzer to lead 37-36 at halftime.
The teams battled throughout the half with neither owning more than a four-point lead until Pigram’s last 3-pointer gave the Bucs a 6-point advantage.
