McKonnell game-winning 3-pointer lifts Owls over Belmont
KENNESAW, Ga. (AP)—Kelvin McKonnell made a 3-pointer with 12 seconds left and Kennesaw State held off a late rally to beat Belmont 81-79 on Thursday.
The Owls (4-15, 2-4 Atlantic Sun Conference) had a 75-64 lead with 5:23 remaining. But Belmont forward Shane Dansby scored 10 points during a 13-1 run over the next four minutes to give them a 77-76 lead.
Ron Wooten, who finished with 30 points, put Kennesaw State ahead by a point. The Bruins (12-8, 4-2) regained the advantage on Dansby’s layup with 27 seconds left. McKonnell followed with the game winner.
Shaun Stegall scored 18 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and had nine assists for the Owls. Keonte Keith had 10 points.
Dansby finished with 16 points for Belmont, while Justin Hare and Alex Renfroe each had 13 points. Keaton Belcher scored 10.
