Lamar beats UCA 89-86 in OT behind Hopkins’ 20 pts
CONWAY, Ark. (AP)—Back-to-back rebounds and put-backs by Lamar’s Darren Hopkins in overtime keyed an 89-86 win Thursday night by Lamar over Central Arkansas.
UCA (11-8, 1-4 Southland Conference) fought back from a 9-point second-half deficit to gain a tie at 79 points each at the end of regulation time.
Hopkins, who led the Cardinals (9-8, 3-1) with 20 points, erased a brief UCA lead in overtime with his two putbacks. He finished with a 7-for-11 record from field. Lamar Sanders, last year’s SLC Newcomer of the Year, scored 18 points, while Currye Todd chipped in 17 for Lamar.
UCA’s guard trio of Nate Bowie, Marcus Pillow and York Sims combined for 59 points—Bowie with 23 points plus 6 assists before fouling out at the end of regulation; Pillow with 20 after he shot 4-of-7 from 3-point range; and Sims, who also fouled out, with 16 points.
