McDaniel’s 3-pointer gives Sam Houston St. win over SFA
HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP)—Shamir McDaniel hit a 3-pointer with 20 seconds left Thursday night to give Sam Houston State a 58-56 victory over Stephen F. Austin.
Josh Alexander missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer for Stephen F. Austin (15-3, 3-2 Southland).
Ryan Bright scored 11 points and had 18 rebounds and six assists for Sam Houston (15-3, 3-2). McDaniel finished with 10 points. John Gardiner also had 10 points.
Alexander led Stephen F. Austin with 22 points, 18 of those off 3-pointers. Matt Kingsley added 11.
Stephen F. Austin jumped out to a 12-2 lead in the first half. Sam Houston cut the margin to 27-22 at halftime.
Bright, who scored nine of his points in the second half, hit a 3-pointer with 15:15 left in the second half to start an 8-1 Sam Houston run to tie the game at 36-36 with 12:40 left.
Gerald Fonzie hit a 3-pointer with 26 seconds left to give the Lumberjacks a 56-55 lead, but McDaniel responded with the winning 3-pointer.
