Hooper, Brasher have big game in win over Middle Tennessee
MONROE, La. (AP)—Tony Hooper scored a game-high 24 points and Lance Brasher added 13 and grabbed 17 rebounds as Louisiana-Monroe took an 82-69 Sun Belt Conference win over Middle Tennessee on Thursday night.
Middle Tennessee (7-11, 4-4) jumped out to an early 8-3 lead at the 16:11 mark, but the Warhawks made up ground quickly. Jordan Payne hit a 3-pointer from the corner to tie the score at 14-14 with 13:07 left in the half.
The Blue Raiders scored four more quick points to reclaim the lead, but Louisiana-Monroe used a free throw by Mitchell Hampton and back-to-back 3-pointers by Hooper to grab the advantage with a little more than 10 minutes left in the half.
Middle Tennessee would pull to within one point, 27-26, before Brasher led a Warhawks charge that scored 19 points over a four-minute stretch to push the lead to double figures. Brasher, who tallied his second double-double on the season, scored eight points during the stretch and controlled the glass all night.
Louisiana-Monroe (8-12, 2-6) took a 46-32 lead into the half and maintained a double-digit advantage throughout the rest of the game.
Jonas Brown finished the game with 19 points for Louisiana-Monroe and Payne came off the bench to add 14.
Desmond Yates led the Blue Raiders with 24 points and 10 rebounds.
