Mills’ dunk decisive as Mercer beats Lipscomb
MACON, Ga. (AP)—Brian Mills made a dunk shot with 13 seconds left and Mercer hung on for an 84-82 win over Lipscomb Thursday night.
Mercer (9-10 overall, 4-2 Atlantic Sun Conference) led 45-38 at halftime. Lipscomb 8-12, 2-4) rallied from a 59-53 deficit with a 16-3 run capped by a Jason Hopkins layup with 9:28 to play to take a 69-62 lead.
Lipscomb led 79-72 on Eddie Ard’s jumper with 4:53 left. Shaddean Aaron’s 3-pointer cut Mercer’s deficit to 80-79 with 3:20 to play, and Mark Hall’s 3-pointer gave the Bears an 82-80 lead with 1:43 left.
Josh Slater tied it for Lipscomb with a jumper with 42 seconds left before Hall got the ball to Mills for his game-winner. Ard and Slater each missed 3-pointers for Lipscomb in the closing seconds.
James Florence led Mercer with 15 points, all in the first half, and Aaron added 14. Ard led Lipscomb with 21 points.
