Gavin’s 16 points help Marist beat Iona 59-50
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP)—Jay Gavin scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half to help Marist to a 59-50 victory over Iona on Thursday night.
Dejuan Goodwin added 13 points and Ryan Stilphen had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Red Foxes (13-7, 7-2 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference).
Milan Prodanovic scored 10 points and Kyle Camper and Gary Springer had nine apiece for the Gaels (7-14, 3-6).
Despite shooting 25.7 percent from the field in the first half, Iona capitalized on 14 Marist turnovers to lead 21-20 at halftime.
There were 11 lead changes and four ties in the second half.
Camper provided the Gaels with their last lead at 39-37 when he scored with 10:33 left in the game.
After Springer’s free throw tied it at 42, a 3-pointer by Goodwin with 8:48 remaining gave the Red Foxes the lead for good.
