PHILADELPHIA (AP)—Leemire Goldwire scored 18 points to lead Charlotte to an 84-78 victory over La Salle on Wednesday night.
Lamont Mack scored 16, and Michael Gerrity and Charlie Coley each had 13 for the 49ers (12-6,3-1 Atlantic 10), who have won four of five.
Jerrell Williams had 14 points and 11 rebounds, and Yves Mekongo Mbala and Ruben Guillandeaux each scored 15 for the Explorers (7-10, 2-2), who had their three-game winning streak snapped.
With the game tied 58-all with 10:50 remaining, the 49ers went on a 13-5 run and took a 71-63 lead with just over four minutes remaining.
Mekongo Mbala scored five points in 11 seconds and pulled La Salle within 75-71 with a minute remaining, but Gerrity hit six straight free throws down the stretch to help seal the win.
After shooting just 14-for-33 (42 percent) in the first half, the 49ers went going 16-for-26 (62 percent) in the second half.
Charlotte started quickly but struggled near the end of the first half, shooting 3-for-12 over the final 7:14 as the Explorers carried a 40-37 lead into the break.
Charlotte outscored La Salle 23-10 off turnovers.
