Harris scores 29 in Navy’s 85-74 win over Holy Cross
WORCESTER, Mass. (AP)—Chris Harris scored 29 points, eight in a decisive second-half rally, to lead Navy 85-74 over Holy Cross on Wednesday night.
Greg Spink, the Patriot League’s leading scorer with a 20.7 average, added 28 for Navy.
The victory snapped a 17-game losing streak for Navy (9-10, 2-2) at the hands of Holy Cross (9-7, 0-4), the defending Patriot League champion, still winless in the league. It was Holy Cross’s fifth straight loss.
Spink scored 17 points in the first half, including 10 straight at one point, as the lead changed hands 11 times before a 37-37 halftime tie.
Holy Cross then took its largest lead of the game, 41-37 on back-to-back layups by Colin Cunningham and Tim Clifford (20 points).
But Harris and Spink got consecutive 3-pointers to put Navy in front 43-41 with 17:32 left. Navy shot 13-29 from 3-point range for the game.
With 10:40 left, Kyle Cruze gave the Crusaders their last lead, 60-59 on the second of his two straight 3-pointers. But Harris led an 8-0 for a 69-61 Navy lead with 7:15 remaining.
Holy Cross came within four points in the final five minutes, but the Midshipmen converted 10 straight free throws for the win.
