Jamal Shuler scores 23 to lead VCU to sixth straight win, 82-65 over Hofstra
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP)—Jamal Shuler scored 23 points to help Virginia Commonwealth extend its win streak to six with an 82-65 victory over Hofstra on Wednesday night.
Lance Kearse and Eric Maynor each scored 17 points for the Rams (14-4, 7-1 Colonial Athletic Association).
Charles Jenkins led the Pride (4-13, 2-6) with 18 points and Darren Townes added 16.
The Rams went on an 11-0 run in the second half to take command, 52-39, at 14:29. Kearse had five and Maynor scored four during the decisive run.
Hofstra started the half with a 7-3 burst that cut VCU’s lead to 41-39 at 17:12.
The Pride began the game by taking a 10-2 lead, with Jenkins capping the run at 15:58 on a layup. After Shuler’s 3-pointer cut VCU’s deficit to 28-25, Shuler scored five points in a 13-4 run to end the half and give the Rams a 38-32 lead.
